San Francisco 49ers' Brandon Aiyuk Saga Continues in Latest Social Media Post

Another day that Brandon Aiyuk remains on the San Francisco 49ers’ roster brings yet another social media video taking aim at the franchise.

Last week, Aiyuk issued a statement telling the organization that made him a first-round pick in 2020 that it needed to “stop running from the belt” before expressing his belief that San Francisco was “scared” to release him.

The plot thickened even further on Tuesday, as Aiyuk again took to Instagram to further air out the Niners.

“You wanna know why they really mad though? They mad because they stupid. They mad because they paid me $50 million in 8 months,” Aiyuk said. “And then voided my guarantees for 2027. And I’m about to be on a new team in 2026. They mad at themselves.”

Aiyuk has long been expected to join the Washington Commanders at some point, either as a free agent or through a trade, due to his longtime connection to star quarterback Jaden Daniels from their days at Arizona State together.

But as these sorts of videos continue emerging, one has to begin to wonder: at what point does Washington lose interest regardless of the price it would take to reunite Aiyuk with Daniels?

Niners GM John Lynch has kept Aiyuk on the roster thus far in an attempt to force the Commanders’ hand with the goal of receiving something in return for the disgruntled receiver.

With each additional social media post, Aiyuk only further tanks his value, likely forcing Lynch to give him what he wants by just cutting the 28-year-old loose.

Some have speculated Washington would eventually give in and send Lynch a sixth or seventh-rounder to add another weapon to new OC David Blough’s offensive attack, but any chances of that happening are probably gone now that Aiyuk has gone on this online tirade.

Given how receivers in the past have been treated following similar outbursts, it’s difficult to project the Commanders remaining interested in Aiyuk even if he ends up being granted what he wants.

Who’s to say he wouldn’t end up pulling the same antics in D.C. that he has in the Bay Area? Once you completely destroy your reputation — especially in this manner — it’s difficult to find a spot with another franchise.

I’d be shocked if the Commanders, or any other team at this point, would be willing to add this sort of drama to their locker room any time soon, which is incredibly unfortunate.

Aiyuk was a great talent and a highly impactful weapon when healthy. It’s a shame his own behavior could completely jeopardize what could’ve been a great career.
