Sahana Chokshi of Jacksonville moves up in second round of Junior PGA
Sahana Chokshi of Jacksonville made four birdies on her way to a 71 on July 29, and through 36 holes is tied for 11th at 3-under-par 141 in the Junior PGA Championship at Fields Ranch at PGA Frisco East Course in Frisco, Texas.
Chokshi, a rising senior at Episcopal who shot 70 in the first round at the West Course, is six shots behind leader Alexa Takai of Honolulu (66). Lily Wachter of St. Augustine, who had a 68 in the first round, had three birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey on her way to a 75, and fell from a tie for fifth to a tie for 20th at 1-under 143.
Sofia Rivera of St. Augustine shot 73 and missed the cut to the low 60 players, plus ties, at 5-over 149.
After a first-round 75 at the East Course, Charlie Woods was in danger of missing the 36-hole cut. However, he birdied his first hole (No. 9) at the West Course and shot 70 to finish at 1-over 145 and in a tie for 46th.
Woods birdied Nos. 18 and 2, bogeyed the third hole, then parred his last five. He tied for ninth in last year’s Junior PGA at the Purdue University golf course, after entering the final day in a tie for second.
There is a 54-hole cut to the low-30 players, plus ties, after the third round on July 30.
