Ryan Fitzpatrick, Andrew Whitworth not interested in full-time booth gig

Ryan Fitzpatrick and Andrew Whitworth both made clear they’re happy right where they are.

In a conversation with Front Office Sports, the two Prime Video studio analysts addressed whether either has interest in eventually moving into a full-time booth role. And both gave a pretty firm no — at least for now — due to their current schedules and family lives outweighing the appeal of a bigger on-air job.

“I’ve done some stuff with Sky Sports [in the UK] for the Super Bowl, and last year I called a game for Westwood One on the radio for a Monday night game,” Fitzpatrick told FOS. “As of right now, it’s not something I’m really interested in, though. I’ve really enjoyed the studio stuff a lot, and I think the point I’m at in my life right now, and everything else, I’m very, very happy to be a part of the team that I’m with right now, and not really looking to take that next step into being an actual on-air guy.”

That radio stint came last November, when Fitzpatrick filled in on Westwood One’s Monday Night Football broadcast for the 49ers-Panthers game alongside play-by-play voice Ryan Radtke, subbing in for the usual pairing of Kevin Harlan and Kurt Warner. It marked his first time calling a live game since retiring from the NFL, and at the time, it looked like a possible first step toward the booth. Fitzpatrick’s answer here suggests otherwise — for now, at least.

As for Whitworth, he gave a version of the same answer as his podcast co-host.

“I think I’m very similar,” Whitworth said. “I think that’s one of the reasons we really were into this idea of having another bigger part of Thursday nights and having our podcast — it both gives us the opportunity to be around our kids, our families, in the way we want to set our schedules for the week. And I think it’s obviously something that would be a dream to do, but it’s not really something right now that fits my current life — four teenagers, I’ve got a lot going on. So being at home on weekends and working Thursday nights, it just all fits, and that’s what we enjoy.”

Fitz & Whit, the weekly show from the journeyman quarterback and Super Bowl champion offensive tackle, launched with Wave Sports + Entertainment in October 2024. The two former Cincinnati Bengals teammates recap the week’s NFL games, look ahead to their coverage of Thursday Night Football, and go behind the scenes of their lives around the game of football and as retired family men. Both Fitzpatrick and Whitworth joined Prime Video’s studio team within a year of retiring, Whitworth in 2021 and Fitzpatrick the year after, when he told Andrew Marchand — then with the New York Post — that the Thursday-only schedule would let him keep his family in one place and still make it to his kids’ games.

Fitzpatrick has since signed a multiyear extension to stay in that role until at least 2027.

Between the podcast, the studio gig, and the schedule that leaves their weekends free, both have built something they’re not eager to trade for a permanent seat in the booth — even an occasional one.
