About the Scholarship

The PhD research project, led by Professor Jeremy Cohen, will investigate how bird communities respond to extreme weather events and how these responses are influenced by species characteristics and habitat structure.

The research will involve fieldwork at different sites in central New Jersey, as well as data from across the eastern United States. Scholars will use bioacoustics, artificial intelligence, point-count surveys, and quantitative methods.

There may also be opportunities to participate in public outreach activities, including leading bird walks and communicating research findings to the public.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants should:

• Hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field.
• Have strong writing and quantitative skills.
• Have visual and/or audio bird identification skills relevant to the eastern United States.
• Meet the university’s English language requirements.
• GIS skills are an advantage.
