Rumour Mongering: Minteh Camp Believe Liverpool Deal Still Possible

· · 1 min read

Over the final few weeks of the transfer window, Brighton and Gambia 22-year-old Yankuba Minteh emerged as a target for Liverpool to fill the gap on the right wing by the departure of Mohamed Salah and to help balance out the fact almost every current Liverpool attacker is most comfortable on the right.

With Brighton demanding at least £70M for a player whose end product so far in his career has been on the limited side, with a goal involvement just about every 350 minutes last season when Salah’s number in a down year was 140 and the much maligned Cody Gakpo managed 240, the club moved on.

Add in strong signals on Monday that Liverpool didn’t expect any further incomings and that they had rejected an £80M Manchester City bid for Gakpo and would head into the meat of the season with the Dutch 27-year-old helping to cover the right side, though, and that seemed to confirm the situation.

However, according to Gambian reports, the player and his camp continue to believe a deal is possible and are pushing for it, which would only happen if Brighton can be convinced to lower their valuation. We’re inclined to think that realistically the deal isn’t currently on. Still, it’s one to keep an eye on.

🇬🇲 Yankuba Minteh to Liverpool FC is not off until the last hour as anything could happen. The player’s camp held talks with #LFC last night pushing for a deal which ended with some positives. #LFC has not contacted the player since this morning, but they also have not closed… pic.twitter.com/oeidlYo7EG
