Fans have reacted furiously after the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offensive line struggled again in their 27-24 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Thursday Night Football.
Pittsburgh fell to 2-2 after surrendering five sacks to the Browns, while Aaron Rodgers finished with 299 passing yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.
The Steelers did fight back from 21-7 down to level the game at 24-24 with 1:42 remaining, but Cleveland responded with Andre Szmyt’s 56-yard field goal with 10 seconds left.
Steelers fans react after offensive line struggles against Browns
The offensive line came under particular scrutiny, with Rodgers under constant pressure and Pittsburgh managing just 92 rushing yards from 19 carries.
One fan also questioned the wider direction of the franchise, writing: “This @steelers defense is not good at all. So overpaid. JPJ needed to go and that is fine, can’t control stupid, just like his father. This current Rooney ownership is ruining the franchise. Time for a lot of change in Pittsburgh.”
Another supporter focused directly on the offensive line, saying: “Not good. O-line still getting pushed around, not able to protect the pocket. Defense struggling most of the night may have cost them the game.”
Joey Porter Jr.’s recent departure to the Dallas Cowboys also remained fresh in the minds of Steelers fans.
“Really could’ve used Joey Porter Jr. tonight..” one supporter wrote.
Porter had missed Pittsburgh’s first three games and was ruled out of Thursday’s game before being traded to Dallas, adding another layer to the reaction after the defeat.
Others looked at the bigger picture, with one fan saying: “Good effort in the second half, but wow, a lot of weak areas exposed by the Browns. The curse of TNF lives on, flush this game and beat Indy next week.”
There was also a call for former Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, while another supporter wrote: “Same team every year. Overpaid soft defense. Inconsistent offense. Every. Year.”
“Thursday night is Pittsburgh kryptonite” another fan added.
One final reaction summed up the frustration around the Steelers: “Your team has so many issues. That locker room must be so toxic.”
Pittsburgh now has to regroup quickly, with the defeat exposing problems on both sides of the ball as the Steelers prepare for their next game.
