Royce White took his WNBA Draft campaign from social media to an arena seat Friday night, arriving at an Indiana Fever game in a long blonde wig and sitting courtside.
The former NBA first-round pick attended the Fever’s August 28 game against the Connecticut Sun at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. White posted a courtside photo from the game and wrote, “The Kweeeen has arrived,” according to PEOPLE.
The appearance came after White submitted a declaration seeking entry into the 2027 WNBA Draft. White has said the move is meant to challenge the league to clarify how its eligibility rules apply.
Reports earlier in the week said White and fellow former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom are not eligible for the draft. The WNBA has not released a detailed public ruling on White’s status, and his legal team has said it has not received a formal determination directly from the league.

White did not keep a low profile inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse. OutKick footage showed him arriving in the wig, speaking with people around the arena and taking photos with fans before Indiana’s 111-91 win over Connecticut.
Asked why he had come, White introduced himself as “Queen Roysha” and said he was there to participate, support the league and “scout some of the competition maybe as well,” according to OutKick.
White also said he was there to watch the game when asked whether his appearance might produce the kind of confrontation that followed Kanter Freedom’s visit to a Chicago Sky game several days earlier.

White formally submitted his declaration through attorney and former U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz. The notice said White identified as a transgender woman and argued that the former NBA player met the age and remaining-college-eligibility provisions in the WNBA’s current collective bargaining agreement.
The agreement says only players who are women may compete in the WNBA, but public reporting has noted that the agreement does not include more specific language defining eligibility by gender identity or sex assigned at birth.
A person familiar with the decision later told the Associated Press that White and Kanter Freedom are not eligible for the draft. The person did not publicly explain the basis for that decision.
The WNBA Has Been Trying to Keep the Debate From Taking Over
The issue has become part of a larger argument around transgender participation in women’s sports, even though there is no publicly known transgender player currently active in the WNBA.
Commissioner Cathy Engelbert has said the league’s eligibility rules are collectively bargained with the Women’s National Basketball Players Association. ESPN reported earlier in August that the league planned to handle the subject through a task force involving team presidents and general managers.
The WNBPA has also said transgender people should not be subjected to hate, abuse or demonization while the issue is debated. The union said it is willing to have difficult conversations but does not want players used as “political pawns.”
White’s NBA Career Lasted Three Games
White entered professional basketball with conventional expectations. The Houston Rockets selected him with the 16th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft after his season at Iowa State.
He never appeared in a regular-season game for Houston and later played three NBA games with the Sacramento Kings in 2014. His career continued outside the NBA after that.
White’s return to a major basketball arena on August 28 came from the stands rather than the court. Indiana beat Connecticut 111-91, while White continued promoting his planned 2027 draft bid from courtside.
