Rotary club donates chairs, educational facilities to Bayelsa school

According to her, the conditions she observed motivated her to engage members of the club’s management board and other partners to develop an intervention that would address some of the school’s immediate needs.

“The condition of the school during my first visit touched me deeply. I felt there was a need to do something to improve the learning environment for these children,” she said.

“That experience motivated me to reach out to members of the club’s management board and our partners so that we could collectively make a difference in the lives of the pupils and students.”

Kunle-Olowu said the project was conceived as a practical demonstration of Rotary’s commitment to education and community development, particularly through initiatives that respond to the needs of underserved communities.

She added that the intervention was intended to support access to essential learning resources and provide the children with a more suitable environment for their academic activities.

“Our intervention is aimed at supporting education, improving access to essential learning resources and giving these children a more conducive environment in which to learn,” she said.

BRED Project Targets Learning Conditions

The Basic Education and Literacy Project forms part of the club’s efforts to support education through practical community-based interventions.

The donation of 50 chairs is expected to ease furniture shortages at the school, while the modern writing board and floor plastering are intended to improve the physical conditions of the learning environment.

Inadequate classroom furniture and poor infrastructure can make it difficult for pupils and students to participate comfortably in lessons.

By providing these facilities, the club seeks to address some of the challenges facing the academy and support classroom teaching.

Kunle-Olowu said the project also reflected the importance of community service and the role individuals and organisations could play in supporting educational institutions facing infrastructural difficulties.

She emphasised that improving schools should not be left solely to the institutions themselves, noting the value of collective efforts in addressing challenges that affect children’s learning experiences.

The club president said the Rotary Club of Yenagoa Sunshine would continue to explore opportunities to support communities through initiatives capable of producing lasting benefits.

Her remarks underscored the club’s intention to sustain community-focused interventions and encourage partnerships that contribute to educational development.

School Has Operated for More Than a Decade

Luxuriant Mission Academy, located in the Azikoro community of Yenagoa, has provided primary and secondary education for more than a decade.

However, the school has faced challenges associated with inadequate furniture and other facilities, affecting the environment in which its pupils and students receive lessons.

The latest intervention is intended to help address some of these shortcomings by improving seating arrangements and providing additional classroom resources.

With 185 pupils and students identified as beneficiaries, the donation is expected to support classroom activities and make the learning environment more comfortable.

The project also highlights the role of community organisations in complementing efforts to improve school infrastructure, particularly where basic resources remain insufficient.

Although the donation addresses specific needs at Luxuriant Mission Academy, the school’s experience illustrates the importance of sustained attention to furniture and other essential facilities in creating suitable learning environments.
