Things are really hotting up in the transfer market right now, and there are big deals going down everywhere you look.
Fabrizio Romano’s timeline is an endless stream of updates right now, and just now he’s given a crucial update on the status of Tottenham defender Cristian Romero.
Romero made it clear before the end of the season that he wanted to leave Spurs, and unlike some teammates he hasn’t had his mind changed by Roberto de Zerbi’s positive impact and the impressive signings the club have made in the last two months.
He still wants out – and Spurs have found a taker.
Romero move makes sense for Spurs and Atletico
Romano says that Atletico Madrid are “clear front runners” for the defenders, and are “preparing a new official bid” after seeing their opening offer turned down.
“Talks are taking place on both club and player side as Atléti are ahead and Cuti wants the move,” the Italian transfer guru explained.
It’s a move that makes sense from a team fit point of view – it’s easy to see Diego Simeone loving his countryman Romero’s wild style of defending. And Atletico have the money to make a deal happen.
Tottenham have already signed Jan Paul van Hecke to replace Romero, and have accepted his will to leave. Right now it is just a question of both sides agreeing on a fair transfer price, and we’d imagine that could come pretty soon now that the parties are in direct talks together.
