Roger Federer Set for US Open Return

Twenty-time Major champion Roger Federer is set to return to the US Open this year for a special exhibition event during Fan Week leading up to the main tournament.

One of the biggest attractions in tennis, despite retiring from the sport nearly four years ago, Federer will once again headline Arthur Ashe Stadium on August 25 this year. He will be joined by fellow former World No. 1s Andy Roddick, Andre Agassi, and John McEnroe.

Federer’s Historic Legacy in New York

A five-time champion in New York, Federer has always been adored at the US Open, where he remains the only player to win five consecutive singles titles, a feat he achieved during a historic run from 2004 to 2008.

At the time, it often felt as though Arthur Ashe Stadium was where Federer played his best tennis of the season. He would go on to reach two additional finals in New York, including the 2009 championship match, which the Swiss star has described as one of the most painful defeats of his career.

Although Federer went on to win more Major titles at both Wimbledon and the Australian Open, his status as one of New York’s most beloved athletes never changed.

First Arthur Ashe Appearance Since 2019

Federer is now set to return for one night only in what will be his first appearance at Arthur Ashe Stadium since 2019. The event has been billed as a once-in-a-lifetime exhibition and will feature several other legends of the sport.

This continues a recent trend of Federer revisiting the Major tournaments following his retirement. His presence has become a regular feature at Wimbledon in recent years, and earlier this year, he returned to the Australian Open, where he took part in the tournament’s first-ever opening ceremony, at an event he won six times.

The newly inducted International Tennis Hall of Fame member, whose official induction ceremony is also scheduled for later this year, will now make his return to the US Open in an event that is expected to draw significant attention ahead of the main tournament, which begins the following week.
