Ridley Scott's Last Historical Epic With Russell Crowe Officially Hits Prime Video

He has covered everything from Marvel to the Oscars, and Marvel at the Oscars. He also writes obsessively about the box office, charting the many hits and misses that are released weekly, and how their commercial performance shapes public perception. In his time at Collider, he has also helped drive diversity by writing stories about the multiple Indian film industries, with a goal of introducing audiences to a whole new world of cinema.

Over the course of a decade, Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe worked together on half a dozen movies. Some, like Gladiator, were runaway critical and commercial hits, while others, like A Good Year, barely registered. The partnership came to an abrupt end exactly a decade after it began. In recent years, both Crowe and Scott have taken shots at each other, mainly on the subject of Gladiator II. The long-gestating sequel finally debuted in 2024, but Crowe wasn’t involved. Scott reasoned that Crowe’s character was dead, while the actor, who won an Oscar for his performance in the first film, said that he worked on a version where he could have returned. Following the sequel’s release, Crowe made it a point to remind everyone that Gladiator II wasn’t exactly a hit, and that he wasn’t a fan of the film at all. No love has been lost between the two, and now’s your chance to revisit their last film together.

The movie in question has been added to the Prime Video library this month, amid a curious time for both Crowe and Scott. The filmmaker has had a string of movies that have struggled to break out commercially, including Gladiator II. His latest release, the sci-fi drama The Dog Stars, flopped with roughly $40 million worldwide against a reported budget of $100 million. Crowe, on the other hand, received acclaim for his recently released Western drama The Weight, while his poorly received Netflix thriller, Unabomber, amassed over 50 million views around the same time.

Your answers point to the iconic universe your values, your instincts, and your particular way of seeing the world were built for. This is where you would find your people — and your purpose.

You believe in the cause — in the idea that freedom is worth fighting for even when the odds are impossible and the empire is vast.

  • You are drawn to the moral clarity of a universe where hope itself is a form of resistance.
  • You’d find your people in the Rebellion — a ragtag coalition of true believers held together by conviction more than resources.
  • Star Wars is fundamentally a story about ordinary people choosing to matter in an extraordinary conflict — and that is exactly your kind of story.
  • The Force may or may not be with you. But the will to use it for something larger than yourself certainly is.

You understand, in the deepest part of yourself, that the journey matters as much as the destination — and that the world’s beauty is worth protecting even at great cost.

  • Middle-earth is a world of ancient wonder, deep friendship, and a darkness that only retreats when enough small acts of courage accumulate.
  • You would thrive here because you value the fellowship more than the glory — the road more than the arrival.
  • Tolkien’s universe rewards patience, loyalty, and the willingness to carry something heavy across a very long distance.
  • Those are not burdens to you. They are simply how you move through the world.

You believe that love, loyalty, and doing what’s right are not naive sentiments — they are the most powerful forces in any world, magical or otherwise.

  • The Wizarding World is a place of wonder hidden in plain sight, where learning is transformative and the bonds you form at school follow you into every battle.
  • You would flourish here because you take both the magic and the friendships seriously — and you understand that one without the other is incomplete.
  • Harry Potter’s universe ultimately rewards those who choose to stand for something even when standing is terrifying.
  • That choice — made quietly, without guarantee — is something you understand completely.

You see the world clearly — its power structures, its hypocrisies, its brutal arithmetic — and you are not paralysed by that clarity. You use it.

  • Westeros is a world that rewards intelligence, adaptability, and the willingness to understand that every alliance is also a negotiation.
  • You would survive here — possibly thrive here — because you don’t confuse the world as it is with the world as you’d like it to be.
  • Game of Thrones is a story about what happens when the idealists and the realists collide. You are sharp enough to know which one lasts longer.
  • Winter always comes. You are already prepared.

You believe the future is worth building — that curiosity, cooperation, and the expansion of understanding are not just ideals but the most practical path forward for any civilisation.

  • Star Trek is a universe where the questions matter as much as the answers, and where encountering something utterly alien is cause for wonder rather than fear.
  • You would belong here because you are fundamentally optimistic about what intelligence and decency can achieve — while being honest about how hard that achievement is.
  • The Federation is the universe’s most ambitious thought experiment: what if we actually got better?
  • You don’t just hope that’s possible. You think it’s the only thing worth working toward.

In 2010, Crowe and Scott attempted to rekindle the spark that made Gladiator such a classic with another period epic, Robin Hood. However, the movie underperformed at the box office, grossing $320 million worldwide against a reported budget of more than $200 million. It received mediocre reviews and is now sitting at a 43% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The aggregator website’s consensus reads, “Ridley Scott’s revisionist take on this oft-told tale offers some fine acting and a few gripping action sequences, but it’s missing the thrill of adventure that made Robin Hood a legend in the first place.” The film began a disappointing run for Robin Hood adaptations, continuing with a 2018 film starring Taron Egerton, a dour character study headlined by Hugh Jackman, and more recently, a revisionist action film with Andrew Garfield in the lead role. There was, however, a 2025 television series that received positive reviews for its old-fashioned charms. You can check the show out on MGM+, while Scott and Crowe’s epic is now streaming on Prime Video. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
