Ricky Pearsall's latest knee injury update is really bleak for 49ers
With the prolific Mike Evans in tow, the San Francisco 49ers were hoping for big things out of their receiving corps during the 2026 season. The latest injury update for third-year receiver Ricky Pearsall, who is dealing with knee swelling, might throw a wrench into the 49ers’ vision for this fall. For those wondering, the knee swelling is, in fact, related to a PCL injury that caused Pearsall to miss eight games last season.
Woof. That’s never a good sign.
According to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, the most likely fallout for Pearsall and his knee is … that he doesn’t really make a significant contribution to the 49ers in 2026. Oh, man. Talk about a bad break of luck for both Pearsall and the 49ers:
“This doesn’t look good… I think it’s reasonable, rational, logical, for the 49ers to NOT expect Ricky Pearsall to make any contribution in 2026.”@MaioccoNBCS says the Niners could be preparing for Ricky Pearsall to miss the entirety of the 2026 season.

Now, note the language there. It does not mean Pearsall definitely won’t play at all this season. It is a careful estimate that he won’t really make any sort of meaningful contribution, not that he won’t play at all. Of course, at a certain point, it’s probably semantics to distinguish between a player effectively not playing and being out for the season entirely, but it should still be noted.
Either way, this is a bleak update for both Pearsall and the 49ers, who had such high hopes for the young playmaker. Here’s hoping for the best over the next few weeks.
Demarcus Robinson is listed as Pearsall’s backup on the 49ers’ current depth chart.
