Rex All-Stars help Eastern Conference edge Western 4-3
Terre Haute Rex All-Stars competed in the Prospect League All-Star baseball game Tuesday night at Loeb Stadium.
The Eastern Conference defeated the Western Conference 4-3 in a come from behind victory for the East. The Western Conference took the initial 2-1 lead after one inning of play before the next five innings went scoreless.
The East fell behind once again in the top of the seventh as the West plated one, but the East offense woke up once again and plated three to take the lead for good in the bottom half of the inning.
For the East, Terre Haute’s Joseph Gutierrez walked, stole second and advanced to third on a single by Danville’s Will Burke to score Lawson Alway from the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes. Alway ended up with two hits and a run scored.
From there, Dubois County’s Hudson Allen doubled to center field to score Burke and Gutierrez. Burke ended up with a hit, RBI and a run scored.
The Rex’s Gio Medoza had a run scored while Wally Diaz went 0 for 2 with Mendoza taking the place of Carter Murphy, who was unable to play. Terre Haute’s (and Indiana State’s) Breyllin Suriel pitched an inning in relief to close out the game and allowed a hit while striking out two batters.
The East’s Drake Hoffa from the Lucky Horseshoes was the winning pitcher.
The Rex (7-0, 17-15) have won their last seven games and are 9-1 in their last 10 with their next game at Decatur at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
