Marco Reus has urged the LA Galaxy to “stick to the plan” as they continue their push for a playoff spot against San Diego FC in MLS.
The Galaxy currently sit eighth in the Western Conference – occupying one of the wildcard spots – and are just two points behind the seventh-place Seattle Sounders.
Greg Vanney’s side have lost just one of their last five league outings (W3 D1) and bounced back from a thumping 6-2 loss to St. Louis City SC by beating Portland Timbers 2-0.
The composed victory after such a heavy defeat means the Galaxy remain in charge of their own playoff destiny, and Reus is determined to avoid any more major setbacks.
“The focus is clear,” Reus said. “Everybody can see the table.
“We, as a team, we’re really honest to each other every day, and it’s just about really every day to put the work in, to stick together, stick to the plan, and just getting better every day, and then at the end you get a result.”

As for San Diego, they are currently without a win in their last seven league games (D3 L4), though they did come from behind to snatch a late 3-3 draw with the Houston Dynamo.
It is a result that leaves them 12th in the West, five points behind the playoff places, and head coach Mikey Varas wants to see more consistency.
“Very disappointed that we’re not winning games because we feel that we’ve had spells of football that could win games,” he said after the draw with Houston.
“But at the same time, we’ll get our heads up in terms of motivation to make that next step. It just hasn’t happened yet.
“We’ve just got to keep investing in ourselves and investing in that intention to find that moment that it clicks. And we need to be more consistent over the course of 90 minutes.”
Marco Reus had a goal and an assist in the Galaxy’s win over Portland, taking him to 36 goal contributions (22 goals, 14 assists) in 55 regular-season matches.
It is more than any other player for the Galaxy since he made his debut with the club in September 2024 (Gabriel Pec – 35).
Anders Dreyer scored from the penalty spot for San Diego on Wednesday, his fourth straight match with a goal involvement.
He has contributed to at least one goal in 39 of his 62 career regular-season appearances.

San Diego won each of their first three meetings with the Galaxy, outscoring them 7-2 in those matches.
The Galaxy are the only Western Conference opponent that San Diego has a 100% record against in regular-season play.
However, San Diego won 13 of their first 20 away matches in all competitions from when the club joined MLS in 2025 to early March this year. Since then, they have just one win in 15 on the road in all competitions (D5 L9), including going winless in five straight on the road (D2 L3).
The Galaxy have won three of their last four regular-season matches. They have not kept consecutive regular-season clean sheets in over two years, since a run of three in a row in June 2024.
