The Rainmaker’s perfectly timed return makes it a great choice for viewers looking for another legal drama to jump into ahead of The Lincoln Lawyer’s final season, which is set to air in 2027. The Rainmaker season 2 premiered in mid-October, with new episodes every Friday at 10 p.m. ET on USA Network, and the series is continuing the story it established in its successful first season. While the legal drama is developing Rudy further, it’s also investing in its ensemble cast in a fun way that allows the show to branch out, casting a wider net than it did in its first year.
With an ensemble dynamic that’s reminiscent of The Lincoln Lawyer because of Rudy’s work with Jocelyn “Bruiser” Stone (Lana Parrilla) and Deck Shifflet (P.J. Byrne), the series moves in a similar way to the Netflix drama. The Rainmaker comes from somewhat of a different slant than The Lincoln Lawyer, as its second season is moving past the events of Grisham’s novel, while The Lincoln Lawyer sticks with Connelly’s source material. Even so, the legal dramas are both exciting in and outside of the courtroom, allowing viewers to get a full perspective on their characters and cases.

While The Lincoln Lawyer and The Rainmaker are two different legal shows, they do have one major common point in a key cast member. Lana Parrilla, who’s appeared throughout The Lincoln Lawyer as Lisa Trammell, is a huge part of The Rainmaker, playing Bruiser Stone on the USA Network series. In The Lincoln Lawyer, Parrilla’s character is a fascinatingly morally ambiguous client of Mickey’s. While Lisa is suspected of murder, Mickey’s faith in her and their evolving relationship makes it seem like she’s not at the center of the crime. Ultimately, her manipulation works on everyone, including Mickey, until the eleventh hour.
Parrilla’s character in The Rainmaker is a completely different undertaking. Bruiser, Rudy’s boss and mentor, is a confident attorney who takes an unconventional approach when taking on her most powerful opponents. Her relationships with those around her are a major part of her character, even if she doesn’t always listen to what they’re saying. With The Rainmaker season 2 expanding on its characters and bringing ancillary parts of their lives, like Bruiser’s ex-husband Tom Cassady (Austin Nichols) into the fold, it’s the perfect opportunity to see Parrilla stretch the character in new ways. Her turn on The Rainmaker is only part of what makes the series great.
