Red Wings on Verge of Larkin Trade?

· · 2 min read

Dylan Larkin was not at Tuesday’s game-day skate for the Detroit Red Wings. Soon, it appears he may no longer be skating with the Red Wings at all.

There is plenty of scuttlebutt in NHL circles that a Larkin trade is about to go down.

It’s the second straight day that Larkin has been absent. He missed Wednesday’s practice. Afterward, Detroit coach Todd McLellan described it as a maintenance day.

Maybe Larkin just needed time to pack.

An NHL source told DHN that he expected Larkin was about to be traded. That’s the reason why Larkin is being held out of workouts.

McLellan did confirm to reporters on Thursday morning that Larkin would not be in the lineup in tonight’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks.

“Dylan Larkin won’t play in tonight’s game,” McLellan told reporters.

Asked if Larkin was injured, McLellan added that Red Wings interim GM Shawn Horcoff would address the situation later in the day.

Larkin Requested a Trade From The Red Wings in the Summer

Larkin put a formal trade request to the Red Wings in the summer. The team has sought to accommodate him ever since, without success.

Dylan Larkin is not expected to play again until he is traded, per @FriedgeHNIC.

That left Larkin in the unenviable position of having to report to training camp on a team he no longer wishes to play for. Just before camp, the Red Wings stripped Larkin of his captaincy.

Larkin, who has a full no-movement clause in the eight-year contract he signed with the Red Wings in 2023, originally gave the Red Wings a list of three NHL teams to which he would approve a trade. That list later grew to eight teams. It’s since been expanded to include 10 teams.

According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, Larkin won’t play another NHL game until he is traded by the Red Wings.
