Red Sox’s Willson Contreras Exits Wednesday’s Game With Left Foot Contusion
Willson Contreras has been one of the Red Sox’s best players this year, and they will need him to be healthy if they want to make any kind of miraculous push for the postseason.
Contreras was named to the All-Star Game earlier this week as a replacement, but he suffered an injury in Wednesday’s game against the Chicago White Sox. If his injury is serious, it’s safe to assume he won’t be playing in the Midsummer Classic after all.
Contreras fouled a ball off his foot in the bottom of the top of the third inning, and appeared to roll his ankle covering first base in the third inning. He immediately motioned to the dugout and was replaced by Romy Gonzalez.

The Red Sox revealed that Contreras has a left foot contusion. The Red Sox were able to go on and win the game without Contreras, but they will now have to wait and see what his status is moving forward. With the All-Star Break coming up, the team could play it safe and give him a few games off.
However, the Red Sox are not in a position where they can afford to lose games, and playing without Contreras could be detrimental to the offense. It’s not like they have Triston Casas to fall back on either. Contreras has proven himself as a very tough player, so the fact that he needed to exit the game may indicate that the injury is something to be at least mildly concerned about.
