Last season, Brayan Bello was reliable near the front of the Boston Red Sox starting rotation.

This season before Sunday, Bello had struggled at the MLB level, so much so that he had been sent down to Triple-A Worcester.

But Boston brought him back for the final game before the All-Star Break, and in a piggyback role, Bello was sharp out of the bullpen.

He allowed a solo homer to Francisco Lindor, but otherwise, Bello’s stuff looked really good:

Brayan Bello out of the pen in his return:

4.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 Ks

The one homer by Lindor was the only damage. He looked awesome. Stuff was sharp and he didn’t walk a man. Very curious what their plan for him is from here. pic.twitter.com/yaogE56Efg

Bello had some simple but positive thoughts after the game.

“It was really good execution today,” Bello said on Sunday, via MLB.com. “I was competing in the strike zone. It felt good. Long time in the Minor Leagues, but it felt great to be back in the big leagues.”

Before getting sent down, Bello had a 6.34 ERA this season.

The 27-year old righty had a 4.34 ERA in four starts at Worcester, striking out 22 batters in 18.2 innings.

Bello still has impressive stuff, and he mostly showed that on Sunday.

It’ll be up to him to hit the ground running out of the All-Star Break to prove he deserves to remain at the MLB level going forward. And if Bello can get back to his past self, it’ll be a huge boost for Boston.
