NEW YORK — In the second game of the series between the Red Sox and Yankees, there aren’t a lot of surprises. But here’s one: Anthony Seigler is in the lineup as the starting second baseman.
Seiger was called up on the last homestand and made his Red Sox debut last Thursday, getting into the game in the seventh inning and getting two at-bats. Obtained as part of the big six-player deal with Milwaukee right before the start of spring training, Seigler is in a major league starting lineup for the first time since last Sept. 3 with the Brewers.
With righthander Will Warren going for New York, Chad Tracy is attempting to load up on lefty bats in the Red Sox lineup. The rest of the lineup also features four other lefties and one switch-hitter (Mickey Gasper).
Elsewhere, Caleb Durbin is back in the lower third of the order (batting seventh) after being elevated to fifth in the series opener Friday night. Marcelo Mayer, who sat Friday with a lefty on the mound for New York, returns to shortstop for the Red Sox.
Prior to the game, the Red Sox made one roster move, placing LHP Jovani Moran on the 15-day IL with left elbow inflammation. Taking his spot on the roster is Alec Gamboa, recalled from Worcester.
