Red Sox Fans Will Be Nervous About New Adley Rutschman Update
The Boston Red Sox were without the services of All-Star catcher Adley Rutschman for the second straight day on Wednesday after he was initially absent on Tuesday due to a sore elbow.
Before Wednesday’s contest against the Miami Marlins, Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy shared that Rutschman is trending in the right direction, although not 100 percent, as shared by Christopher Smith of MassLive.com.
“He definitely is better today, which is good. But if he’s not like, ‘Hey, I feel completely fully recovered,’ why would you do that? Use today plus the off day … to try to get completely on the other side of this thing and hopefully be able to turn him loose in New York,” Tracy said. “So hope we’re trending that way, but it just didn’t make a lot of sense to me today to try to risk putting him out there. So just let him be off today and we’ll reassess him after the off day.”
In a perfect world, the All-Star backstop will take the field on Friday against the New York Yankees.
Despite the fact that Tracy said he’s trending in the right direction, it’s concerning any time an All-Star is sitting on the sidelines and banged up in any way.
Plus, when it comes to Boston this season, it has seemed like the injuries have always been worse than the club has initially said. That was the case with both Roman Anthony and Garrett Crochet.
Hopefully, Rutschman is able to come back on Friday. But this is something to monitor.
