Relief pitcher Joe La Sorsa was traded from the Pittsburgh Pirates to the Boston Red Sox on Thursday and made his 2026 season debut with his new team Sunday afternoon.

The Red Sox announced Monday afternoon that they’d optioned the left-hander to Triple-A Worcester and called up infielder-outfielder Nate Eaton.

La Sorsa faced two New York Yankees hitters on Sunday in the Bronx, surrendering a three-run home run to infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. before striking out outfielder Jose Caballero.

Eaton will be returning to the majors for the second time this season.

The 29-year-old was called up to Boston in late April but didn’t appear in any games and was sent back to Worcester 24 hours later.

Eaton recorded one home run, four RBIs and nine stolen bases over 41 contests with the Red Sox last year and has five home runs, 22 RBIs and eight stolen bases across 48 games in Triple-A this season.
