Rebecca Ferguson and Andrew Garfield co-star in a new fantasy epic, and the movie is coming soon to HBO Max. Both Ferguson and Garfield are used to genre releases. When it comes to the latter, Garfield has appeared in multiple Spider-Man movies, playing the version of Peter Parker that led The Amazing Spider-Man franchise. The actor is expected to return in either Avengers: Doomsday or 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars, as the multiverse could bring back Garfield’s Spider-Man. As for Ferguson, the actress appears in one of the biggest movie franchises of all time, playing Ilsa Faust in the Mission: Impossible movies.
More recently, she joined a huge sci-fi franchise in the form of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune movies. Ferguson also found immense streaming success in 2026 through the return of one of Apple TV’s biggest sci-fi series, Silo, whose final season will drop on the streamer next year. In the fantasy genre, Ferguson and Garfield joined forces for The Magic Faraway Tree. The fantasy epic was originally released in theaters in the United States on August 21, grossing just $35 million worldwide. Now, The Magic Faraway Tree is getting ready to find new life on streaming, and it could bode well for its future.

The Fantasy Film Is The Start Of A Major Franchise

While The Magic Faraway Tree only grossed $35 million, the plan for the franchise is to expand it with sequels. In fact, two sequels are currently in development after The Magic Faraway Tree posted strong numbers in the United Kingdom. The fantasy epic comes from a storied franchise, based on the Enid Blyton book series The Faraway Tree, of which the original novel came out all the way back in 1939. There are three main novels in the franchise: The Enchanted Wood, The Magic Faraway Tree, and The Folk of the Faraway Tree. The Magic Faraway Tree performing well on HBO Max could boost interest in the sequels.
