Raul Asencio knows he has made his situation at Real Madrid considerably more difficult and has made a commitment to Jose Mourinho as he tries to repair his standing at the club.
According to Defensa Central, the defender has acknowledged that he made several serious mistakes and is determined to put them behind him by focusing entirely on his football.
His immediate objective is to regain Mourinho’s trust and fight his way back into Real Madrid’s plans.
The 23-year-old found himself at the centre of controversy after being stopped at a breathalyser checkpoint in southern Gran Canaria at around 6:30 am on August 16 while driving under the influence of alcohol.
Asencio failed both the initial and secondary breath tests, with the results exceeding the legal limit.
The incident has now moved beyond a personal matter, as Real Madrid have opened disciplinary proceedings against the defender and will assess what internal punishment should follow.

Following the incident, Asencio was summoned to a fast-track trial and received a €14,400 fine, calculated at €120 per day over four months. He was also handed an eight-month suspension of his driving licence.
Real Madrid, on their part, are conducting their own investigation into the circumstances.
Depending on the club’s assessment of the seriousness of the offence, Asencio could face a financial penalty or another form of disciplinary sanction.
The timing of these events is quite damaging for a player who was already trying to establish his position under Mourinho.
Asencio’s future at the Santiago Bernabéu had become uncertain after Mourinho returned to the club.
Real Madrid had been open to the possibility of selling the defender, but an injury earlier in the summer prevented potential alternatives from developing.

Mourinho has begun his second spell at Real Madrid with a notably calm approach to managing the dressing room, and Asencio is now hoping that attitude will allow him to recover his position.
The defender is understood to have made a personal commitment to concentrate fully on his career, improve his football and move beyond the mistakes that have placed him under scrutiny.
For now, with Mourinho assessing his squad and deciding which players fit into his plans, Asencio needs to demonstrate reliability both on and off the pitch.
His footballing qualities have already put him in the conversation, but the latest incident creates another obstacle to overcome.
