Real Madrid have been very busy in the transfer market over the last few weeks, but their work is far from over. The signings of Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries are already wrapped up, and in the coming weeks, they hope to seal further transfers.
After addressing Jose Mourinho’s defensive options with the additions of Konate and Dumfries, Real Madrid have now turned their attention to midfield. A deal to bring Bernardo Silva to the Bernabeu is close, but a more defensive-minded option is also wanted – and it could be another Portuguese that is the chosen one.
Recent reports that stated that Mourinho has asked Real Madrid to sign compatriot Mateus Fernandes, with the West Ham United midfielder having impressed the new head coach. He will leave the English club this summer after their relegation from the Premier League, and Los Blancos are said to be in the race at this stage.
However, they could quickly fall out of it, considering they are unprepared to pay West Ham’s £80m (€93m) asking price, as reported by El Debate (via TEAMtalk). It’s a figure that Real Madrid consider to be too expensive, and with the likes of Manchester United involved, they could quickly be left behind.
€93m Fernandes signing would be a big risk

Real Madrid have the money to spend this summer, as was shown by their bidding of €150m for Julian Alvarez, which was knocked back by Atletico Madrid. Reaching €93m for Fernandes would be very achievable, but for a player that does not have too much experience at the highest level, it would be a risk.
However, a deal would align with the club’s transfer policy, so it is a question of whether Real Madrid deem Fernandes the ideal player to address their midfield concerns of the last few seasons.
