Ravens get positive Nate Wiggins injury update after being carted off

· · 2 min read

Baltimore Ravens cornerback Nate Wiggins avoided a potentially serious injury after being carted off during Tuesday’s practice. Early testing showed no ligament damage, giving the Ravens reason for optimism ahead of the 2026 NFL season.

Wiggins reportedly suffered the injury after tangling feet with rookie receiver Ja’Kobi Lane during a deep-route drill. Trainers helped him from the field before he was taken away on a cart.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz shared the update on X, citing sources familiar with Wiggins’ situation.

“The early belief is #Ravens CB Nate Wiggins, who was carted off at practice today, avoided a major injury and there is no ligament damage,” Schultz wrote.

Wiggins will continue undergoing tests before Baltimore provides a complete diagnosis. However, the initial results represent a major relief after the second-year cornerback struggled to put weight on his left leg.

The Ravens entered camp expecting Wiggins to play a major role in their revamped secondary. His availability matters even more after Baltimore made significant changes across its defense this offseason.

Nate Wiggins remains important to Ravens defense

Wiggins started all 17 games last season and established himself as a key boundary defender. He finished with 76 tackles, three interceptions and 14 passes defended.

His development gives Baltimore another reliable option alongside veteran cornerbacks Marlon Humphrey and Chidobe Awuzie. A lengthy absence would force the Ravens to rely more heavily on their younger defensive backs.

T.J. Tampa, Keyon Martin and Chandler Rivers could see additional practice opportunities if Wiggins misses time. That depth will matter as new defensive coordinator Jesse Minter continues shaping the unit.

The Ravens also added veteran pass rusher Trey Hendrickson during an aggressive offseason. Their defensive plan depends on creating pressure while maintaining coverage on the back end.

That makes Wiggins’ health particularly important. Baltimore cannot afford repeated breakdowns in coverage while adjusting to a new defensive structure.

Still, the early report changes the immediate outlook. No ligament damage removes the biggest concern from the initial injury scare. Wiggins will undergo further testing before his timetable becomes clear. Until then, Baltimore can focus on the positive signs rather than preparing for a long-term absence.

For a team with playoff expectations, that is the outcome the Ravens wanted after watching one of their key defenders leave practice on a cart.
