Dante Moore gets injury update after leaving game in ambulance

The Oregon Ducks pulled off a massive win over the USC Trojans on Saturday night, but one of the biggest stories from the game was the health of star quarterback Dante Moore, who left the game in an ambulance during the second quarter.

Moore was knocked out of the game midway through the second quarter after an illegal hit from USC linebacker Desman Stephens as he was sliding to end a first-down run. Moore’s backup, Dylan Raiola, was able to lead the team to victory in his absence, but head coach Dan Lanning provided a bit of an update on his star quarterback after the game.

‘He’s moving’

It was a scary scene at the Coliseum on Saturday night when Moore went down with his injury. After the hit to his head, Moore immediately took an involuntary fencing posture – often a sign that someone has lost consciousness – and medical training staff from both sidelines rushed to his side.

Moore was down on the field for several minutes while training staff attended to him, and he ultimately left the game in an ambulance and was taken to Los Angeles General Medical Center.

As Moore was taken off the field, NBC cameras caught Moore appearing to move his extremities as he was loaded into the ambulance.

While Lanning could not share too much about Moore’s status, he was at least able to provide some optimism.

“He’s moving, he has the ability to move, so we’ll continue to assess him, but I don’t want to make any speculation on further thoughts on that until we have more information with him,” Lanning said after the game, via On3.

‘It’s a disgusting play’

Lanning was also quick to speak out against the hit and the subsequent celebration from Stephens – though he admits that he didn’t see it firsthand because he was focused on his own team.

“Our guys respect the game. I don’t think you’d ever see that from our players. I don’t think you’d ever see that from our coaches,” Lanning said after the game. “I don’t think that’s necessarily an indictment on Coach Riley, because I can’t speak on what I didn’t see. He was quick to voice his concern for our player. So I appreciate that from him.”

That said, he did not mince words when discussing the play itself.

“It’s a disgusting play,” Lanning said bluntly. “You don’t want to see it happen. It’s disappointing that it happened. I’m praying our player’s healthy, and I’m praying their player can learn from that situation, because that’s not a moment you want to be a part of.”
