Ranking Texas A&M's 9 remaining opponents from easiest to toughest

Week 3 brought another round of surprises across college football, including several ranked teams suffering their first losses and plenty of movement in the latest polls.

Texas A&M was one of the teams moving in the wrong direction after a 31-21 loss to Kentucky at Kyle Field. The Aggies committed three turnovers, struggled to finish drives and allowed the Wildcats to take control with 21 unanswered points in the third quarter. With their first road game coming Saturday at LSU, Mike Elko’s team must quickly right the ship.

The Aggies’ future opponents also produced mixed results. Alabama overcame a 15-point deficit to defeat Florida State and moved ahead of LSU on this list after the Tigers lost at Ole Miss. Oklahoma continued to struggle offensively despite beating New Mexico, while South Carolina blew a 16-point lead in a home loss to Mississippi State.

Those results created some movement throughout the rankings. Here is an updated look at the Aggies’ nine remaining opponents from easiest to most challenging heading into Week 4:

2026 record: 1-2

Analysis: The Citadel did not play in Week 3 after suffering a 26-20 double-overtime loss to Charleston Southern the previous week. The Bulldogs have already shown they can challenge an FBS opponent by defeating Charlotte, but the talent difference and location make this the most manageable game remaining on Texas A&M’s schedule.

2026 record: 1-2

Analysis: Arkansas suffered its second consecutive blowout loss, falling 45-17 at Georgia after losing 43-10 at Utah. The Razorbacks have now dropped 12 consecutive SEC games and have not shown they can consistently compete against Power Four opponents. Returning to Kyle Field should also give Texas A&M another advantage in this matchup.

2026 record: 2-1

Analysis: South Carolina suffered a major setback by blowing a 16-point lead in a 41-34 home loss to Mississippi State. The Gamecocks allowed four touchdown passes and were outscored 27-4 during the second half. A November trip to Williams-Brice Stadium will still be challenging, but South Carolina has enough questions on both sides of the ball to remain near the bottom.

2025 final record: 2-1

Analysis: Oklahoma defeated New Mexico 14-6, but another poor offensive performance knocked the Sooners out of the AP Top 25. Oklahoma has scored only 24 combined points over its last two games and has struggled to generate explosive plays. The late-November trip to Norman prevents this matchup from falling below South Carolina.

2026 record: 3-0

Analysis: Missouri remained undefeated with a 27-17 win over Troy, though the Tigers were not as dominant as in their first two games. Missouri has scored at least 27 points in every contest and already owns a quality road victory over Kansas. Facing the Tigers in Columbia makes this a significant challenge for the Aggies.

2026 record: 3-0

Analysis: Tennessee continued its strong start with a 42-9 victory over Kennesaw State. Freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon completed 18 of 26 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown as the Volunteers produced another balanced offensive performance. Texas A&M gets this game at Kyle Field, but Tennessee still looks like one of the SEC’s most complete teams.

2026 record: 2-1

Analysis: LSU suffered its first loss after falling behind 24-7 at halftime against Ole Miss. The Tigers responded with 17 unanswered points to tie the game before the Rebels pulled away for a 32-24 victory. LSU showed it can battle back, and Texas A&M must now face an angry Tigers team in a Saturday night game at Death Valley.

2026 record: 3-0

Analysis: Alabama overcame another slow start to defeat Florida State 50-36. The Crimson Tide trailed 21-6 before outscoring the Seminoles 44-15 over the remainder of the game. Alabama’s defense surrendered 471 yards, but its offensive firepower and the difficulty of winning at Bryant-Denny Stadium move this matchup ahead of LSU.

2026 record: 3-0

Analysis: Texas remained undefeated with a 30-6 win over UTSA, though its offense looked sluggish at times against a heavy underdog. The Longhorns’ defense prevented UTSA from reaching the end zone and continues to give them a significant margin for error. Texas remains the toughest opponent until another team proves otherwise, even with the rivalry game returning to Kyle Field.
