Raiders give update on absence of LB Nakobe Dean from minicamp

Tuesday the minicamp-day-one-notes-observations-attendance/">raiders/341" target="_blank">Raiders took the field for the first practice of their mandatory minicamp. It’s the final phase of offseason practices and Nakobe Dean has yet to see the field.

Prior to today practices were voluntary, so Dean’s absence could very well have been his decision. But with him still not on the field for minicamp, it was clear it is an injury situation.

Dean was on the property, but not on the field, which means he’s rehabbing an injury. But Raiders assistant head coach Mike McCoy said the team isn’t worried about Deab’s injury long term.

“No, there’s no concern,” said McCoy. “He’s a pro. This is the offseason. The number one thing is that we’re taking it one day at a time. And we can get through these next couple days and minicamp and you get through training camp. The key thing is to have everybody as fresh as possible and ready to go for the opener. That’s the number one focus.”

Dean was one of the team’s top free agent additions this offseason. The former Eagles linebacker is expected to start alongside fellow free agent signing Quay Walker. But we have yet to see the two of them take the field together. Hopefully Dean will be back by training camp in late July.
