Protests rock UNIOSUN campus over death of final-year student

Reaffirming its commitment to student welfare, the university management swiftly rejected the allegations of clinical negligence, describing the protesters’ narrative as heavily biased and misleading.

In an official corporate statement issued by the university’s spokesperson, Mr Adesoji Ademola, the institution verified that while Osunlakin had a documented history of asthma from her first year, clinic logs showed she was last clinically managed at the university facility on March 26, 2026.

Citing internal investigative briefs compiled from the victim’s close housemate, Miss Durosinmi Mariam, the university reported that Osunlakin actually returned from a night Christian fellowship in town before complaining of acute, sudden stomach pains rather than a respiratory asthma attack.

The statement noted that the victim went to the toilet, where she cried out in deep distress before being assisted back to her room.

The management explained that when the students organised an evacuation at about 11:30 p.m., emergency transport logistics were crippled by an unannounced traditional Oro ritual curfew taking place across the Ifetedo community.

Despite the high-risk cultural blockade, the undergraduates managed to convey Osunlakin via motorcycle to the Community Health Centre in Ikija, Ifetedo, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The university administration has appealed for calm, assuring the student union that an external autopsy and full administrative panel inquiry have been launched to uncover the precise medical timeline.
