Primetime 585 Spotlight Team: Kendall girls soccer

The News 8 Primetime 585 Spotlight Team of the Week is the top state-ranked Kendall girls’ soccer team.

The Eagles faced off against undefeated Notre Dame Batavia and came away with a 3-0 win. The shutout marked the 10th of the season for goalie Teagan Shaw and the Kendall defense.

“My defense is insane,” said Shaw after the win. “Addison (Kludt) doesnt really allow many shots on goal, so that makes it easy. For the ones on goal, I’ve been working all offseason, winter and spring, so we’ve worked our way up to it.”

Some of the defensive stars include Addison Kludt, Brynn Hardenbrook, Kearstin Loescher, Isabella D’Agostino, and Haley Ball.

Offensively, Kendall has outscored their opponents 69-3 this season, led by Junior Ryleigh Denning with 20 goals. Sophia Picardo leads the team with 11 assists.

Denning got Kendall on the board first, followed by a goal from Picardo with just two seconds left in the first half. Then in the second, Denning scored again for a 3-0 lead. All three goals were assisted by Jersie Drake.

“Winning against good teams like them (Notre Dame Batavia) feels amazing and great,” said Denning. “We all push ourselves. When we score, it just uplifts our team so much to keep going, and we’re really aiming for the sectional title this year.”

“A number one ranking is great, but the job’s not done,” said Kendal head coach Nino Pilato. “We’ve got four games to go in this season, then we start a new season after that, and we’ll see how it goes from there.”

Congratulations to coach Nino Pilato and the Kendall girls for earning the News 8 Primetime 585 Spotlight Team of the Week.
