Prime Video‘s biggest movie in the world is a new post-apocalyptic thriller that comes from an underrated franchise, and it has left many projects behind. Prime Video is one of the streaming services to have found success with post-apocalyptic movies and TV shows. For instance, HBO Max has The Last of Us, while Netflix has movies like Sandra Bullock’s Bird Box and TV shows like The Eternaut, AMC+ has The Walking Dead series, and so on. When it comes to Prime Video’s slate of TV shows, post-apocalyptic projects like the video game franchise adaptation Fallout, starring Ellan Purnell, have found success.
In 2024, Prime Video played with that genre through the release of Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End, a post-apocalyptic movie that followed Francisco Ortiz’s Manel trying to make his way back to his family as a virus turns Europe into a zombie-infested hellhole. Now, two years later, the Spanish zombie thriller has just seen the release of a sequel, Apocalypse Z: New World, which was released on Prime Video on October 30, right in time for Halloween, and the proximity to the holiday has worked in its favor, as Apocalypse Z: New World is now one of the biggest movies in the world.
Apocalypse Z Is Back To Dominate Prime Video
According to data from FlixPatrol, Apocalypse Z: New World currently stands as the most popular movie on Prime Video’s Top 10 Movies chart worldwide. The post-apocalyptic thriller entered the coveted chart on November 1, only a couple of days after it became available on the streaming service. With its rise to the top of Prime Video’s global charts, Apocalypse Z: New World has left behind movies like the Sacha Baron Cohen comedy Ali G: Who Iz I?, the Prime Video original romance Love of Your Life, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the drama We Live in Time, and many more.

At the time of writing, Apocalypse Z: New World is trending on Prime Video in 51 countries, with the new zombie thriller ranking as high as the most-watched movie on Prime Video in 31 of those nations. Those include countries like Australia, Brazil, Chile, the Dominican Republic, France, Mexico, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, and many more. Apocalypse Z: New World is also finding success in the United States, where it is currently the most-watched movie on Prime Video, per FlixPatrol. Nationwide, the post-apocalyptic thriller ranks higher than the survival thriller Hungry, the horror franchise entry Scream 7, and more.

The first movie in the Spanish zombie thriller franchise, Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End, is also a global streaming hit again. Right now, Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End is Prime Video’s 9th most popular movie worldwide. The new Prime Video zombie movie builds on the 2024 release and has the Canary Islands as the last safe haven for those who are left alive in a zombie-ridden Europe. A team is sent to Madrid to search for supplies, though the mission does not play out as expected. The sequel also reveals Manel’s surprising fate, with Apocalypse Z: New World a global hit.
