Prime Video's 8-Part Stephen King Series Is So Good, It's Renewed After Just 2 Weeks
Mike Flanagan and Stephen King are a match made in horror heaven, and Prime Video has officially renewed Flanagan’s adaptation of the iconic author’s debut novel for a second season. King has called Flanagan “the best adapter of my work,” with the auteur helming the feature films Gerald’s Game (2017), Doctor Sleep (2019), and The Life of Chuck (2025), all of which received positive reviews.
This critical goodwill extends to Flanagan’s first small-screen King adaptation, Carrie, which premiered on Prime Video on October 7, 2026, and earned an impressive 85% on Rotten Tomatoes. Though Flanagan brought the story of the bullied, telekinetic teen Carrie White (Summer H. Howell) into the present day, he kept the story’s iconic pig’s blood and prom night massacre climax largely the same. However, Carrie‘s ending diverged from its source material, not only by keeping its heroine alive and on the run, but also by introducing several other superpowered women, all of whom want something from Carrie.
Though Prime Video billed the show as a miniseries, Flanagan revealed that he saw Carrie as a three-season show before it even premiered. With acclaim and high viewership, the streamer clearly has faith in his vision, as Amazon has already renewed Carrie for season 2. It’s the beginning of an era for Mike Flanagan — in more ways than one.
Carrie’s Renewal Is A Great Sign For Mike Flanagan’s New Stephen King Franchise

Carrie is not only the first Mike Flanagan show to get a second season, but it also lets the writer-director move full steam ahead with his broader Stephen King franchise. He’s also adapting The Dark Tower, King’s hugely popular novel series, into a TV show and has already written the first season’s scripts, which haveKing’s stamp of approval.
The Dark Tower TV series and Carrie season 2 are exciting enough on their own, but what’s even more thrilling is that Flanagan confirmed that Carrie and The Dark Tower are connected. While he is developing them as two separate projects so far, this connection teases major crossover potential.
What’s more, the Carrie finale already dropped hints at the show’s connection to a bigger King universe. When Adelaide (Kate Siegel) interviews Margaret White (Samantha Sloyan) about her supernatural abilities, the mysterious woman discusses how many people have “a little shine in them.” This is an obvious reference to The Shining, where Danny Torrance’s powers are referred to as “the shine”. It’s another King-universe connection Flanagan could explore in Carrie season 2, and he appears to have the author’s full support in his creative decisions.
What Can Carrie Season 2 Actually Be About?

Despite Flanagan’s future project and his statements about Carrie‘s place in a bigger King world, no official plot details for season 2 have been revealed. However, the season 1 finale has some big setups for the series’ future.
Right now, some of Carrie‘s biggest unanswered questions surround Carrie’s friend Emaline (Thalia Dudek) and Adelaide’s superpowered group of “others”. Emaline is a bloodthirsty astral projector who is on the run from the group. It’s unclear why, only that she fears them, referring to them as “monsters.”
Meanwhile, Adelaide and co. have posed as a documentary film crew who are shooting interviews with survivors of the prom night massacre in an effort to glean information about Carrie’s whereabouts. The reason why has yet to be revealed, but Adelaide told Margaret that Emaline is dangerous. Though Emaline appears to be Carrie’s strongest (and only) ally right now, Adelaide isn’t wrong. After all, Emaline volunteered to “take the wheel” and help Carrie murder everyone at the prom. The astral projector has a serious dark side, and season 2 should answer how big a threat that is to Carrie.
As Emaline drives Carrie to an unknown destination, she gives the protagonist some encouraging words, telling her she’s a goddess and that this is her world. Carrie has essentially only ever used her TK gene reactively, so this is the first time she’s examined how powerful she really is. “My world,” she repeats, beginning to embrace the concept. Carrie season 2 is poised to reveal what that world looks like.
