Previewing the 5 Central Illinois baseball teams battling for a spot at state Monday

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) – Monday is the Elite 8 for the high school baseball playoffs around the state. Central Illinois with five programs still alive across three separate classes.

In 3A, we have two of the eight teams remaining. East Peoria is on the run of a lifetime, their first time reaching the supersectional round since 1974, over half a century ago. The senior class is a close-knit group of friends who have played together for a decade.

They are set to face Geneva Monday in Geneseo. The team is enjoying the moment, but hope Monday is not the end of the road.

Oh, it’s going to be a lot of fun. But we also know what we have in front of us. We can enjoy this moment right now, but we have to turn the page quickly. I want to play for these guys for my whole life. But, you know, we’re going to keep it going as long as we can.

That hardware means nothing to me. It means everything to them and they deserve it. And they got it. And I’m so glad for them. But for me, it’s finally good to see guys that deserve it, get it

I mean, that was crazy. Had our last two games come down to the final swing. And, you know, we’ve been lucky to be on the right side of it. They swing the bats. Looking at their scores, they score a lot of runs and they’ve got a couple of dudes on the mound who are really good so we’ll have our work cut out for us.
