Prediction: Nijmegen vs Olympiacos

Two camps who will meet for their Champions League qualifying second-leg showdown on Tuesday evening, Nijmegen will welcome Olympiacos to the Netherlands.

With the rest of Europe’s elite domestic leagues set to follow suit over the next fortnight as they make their respective returns, there are plenty of attractive betting promotions available.

Nijmegen

Starting with the hosts, springing what was an almighty upset last season as they eventually grabbed a history-making bronze medal finish among Holland’s elite, Nijmegen had rightfully received a string of plaudits from across the continent. However, despite putting in a gritty performance on foreign soil last week as they snatched a 0-0 stalemate over in Greece, Dick Schreuder’s camp did fail to find any kind of momentum over the weekend. Getting the 2026/27 Eredivisie campaign underway with a shock 2-1 defeat at home against Telstar, Nijmegen are desperately searching for an immediate response here. Winning just one of their previous eight appearances across all competitions on either side of the summer interval, Schreuder’s men could have some real pressure on their shoulders here.

Still recovering from a long-term knee injury and not making a single appearance across any competition so far this calendar year, former Torino defender Perr Schuurs remains on the sidelines and won’t play any part on Tuesday evening.

Completing a permanent switch to to Gofferstadion this summer, ex-Ajax and Southampton talisman Dusan Tadic will feature in the final third. Handed a domestic rest over the weekend, one-time Manchester City youngster Philippe Sandler should be handed a full recall at the back.

Olympiacos

As for the visitors, missing out on the chance to claim a crucial first-leg advantage on home soil last week, Olympiacos have a real job on their hands when they travel to the Netherlands on Tuesday evening. Signing off their summer preparations with a rollercoaster 3-2 loss against AZ Alkmaar, the Greek giants are desperately searching for some much-needed stability. In fact, losing each of their final three pre-season battles over the summer, Jose Luis Mendilibar’s men also have some mounting pressure on their shoulders. Eventually forced to settle for another silver medal finish among Greece’s elite last season, it should also be highlighted that Olympiacos have failed to register consecutive wins across all fronts since back in January.

Completing a permanent switch from Premier League outfit Nottingham Forest this summer, David Carmo will start at the heart of Olympiacos’ defence. Settling for a spot on the bench last week, one-time Atletico Madrid forward Gelson Martins could be handed a full recall.

Once again claiming Olympiacos’ Golden Boot last season and featuring for Morocco at the 2026 World Cup in North America this summer, attacking talisman Ayoub El Kaabi will spearhead Mendilibar’s charge.

Nijmegen vs Olympiacos Key Factors to Consider

  • When Nijmegen and Olympiacos met for their first-leg showdown over in Greece last week, Tuesday’s opponents played out a 0-0 stalemate.
  • Continuing on from last season, Nijmegen have recorded just a sole win from their previous eight appearances across all competitions.
  • Olympiacos have failed to register consecutive wins since the end of January.
  • The Greek giants lost all of their final three pre-season matchups over the summer by an aggregate score of 7-2.
  • Nijmegen have failed to record a competitive clean sheet in front of their own supporters since the start of March.

While Nijmegen and Olympiacos might have played out a nervy 0-0 stalemate when they met for their first-leg showdown over in Greece last week, we could be treated to a far more enjoyable Champions League qualifying battle here. Watching the Greek giants lose each of their final three pre-season matchups by an aggregate score of 7-2, it should also be highlighted that the midweek hosts have failed to muster a single competitive clean sheet in front of their own supporters since returning from March’s international break.
