Prediction: Marseille vs Olympiacos

Looking to make it consecutive Europa League victories on Thursday night, Olympiacos will travel to France when they meet Marseille.

Ahead of a stacked midweek schedule from across the continent, there are plenty of attractive Europa League betting promotions available.

Verdict: Goal to be scored in both halves

Marseille

Starting with the hosts, while Marseille might have marked their return from September’s extended international break with an essential 2-0 victory away at Troyes last weekend, Les Phoceens have shown a string of glaring issues since opening up the 2026/27 campaign. With just their goal difference remarkably keeping them outside the Ligue 1 relegation spots, the pressure on Bruno Genesio’s shoulders remains at a boiling point. Getting their Europa League adventure underway with a woeful performance in Istanbul as they eventually slumped to a 4-1 drumming at the hands of Besiktas, Marseille have lost five of their previous six appearances across all competitions – a rut that stems back to August 21st. It should also be highlighted, Genesio’s men have suffered consecutive defeats at the Stade Velodrome for the first time since back in January.

While USA international Timothy Weah might have missed out against Troyes over the weekend after serving a domestic suspension, the former Juventus star is free to feature here. Suffering a muscle injury while away with Denmark during September’s international break, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will not feature on Thursday night.

Recently returning from a thigh issue and making a brief late cameo appearance on Sunday, ex-Atletico Madrid midfielder Geoffrey Kondognia will be hoping to get more minutes under his belt. England U21 international CJ Egan-Riley will start at the heart of Marseille’s defence.

Olympiacos

As for the visitors, while Olympiacos might have a major tussle on their hands in the race to recapture their domestic crown this season, the Greek heavyweights are enjoying an extended flurry. Clinching consecutive 1-0 victories against Panathinaikos and Levadiakos on either side of September’s international break, Imanol Alguacil’s side should find the mood in their camp at a real high. Opening their Europa League adventure with a 2-1 win at home against Polish outfit Jagiellonia last month, Thursday’s guests should be excited by a trip to France in midweek. Suffering just a sole defeat across all competitions within 90 minutes since opening up the 2026/27 campaign, Olympiacos have also continued to impress on their travels. In fact, Olympiacos have registered seven points from their first three domestic showdowns away from the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium.

While Manolis Saliakas might have been shown a dramatic second-half red card against Panathinaikos on Sunday, the former St. Pauli defender is free to feature here. Set for a lengthy stint on the sidelines after suffering a broken leg last month, leading marksman Ayoub El Kaabi will not play any part on Thursday night.

Returning to Alguacil’s squad over the weekend, new recruit and former Aston Villa star Leon Bailey could make a first appearance since September 16th. Likewise, fellow new recruit and ex-Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega will start between the sticks in France.

Marseille vs Olympiacos Key Factors to Consider

  • When Marseille and Olympiacos last met back in December 2020, Les Phoceens claimed a 2-1 Champions League victory on home soil.
  • Despite clinching a much-welcomed 2-0 victory away at Troyes last weekend, Marseille have lost five of their previous six appearances across all competitions.
  • Marseille have suffered consecutive defeats in front of their own supporters for the first time since back in January.
  • Opening their Europa League adventure with a 2-1 victory against Jagiellonia last month, Olympiacos have won four of their previous five matchups across all fronts.
  • Olympiacos have registered seven points from their first three domestic showdowns away from the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium.

Opening their Europa League adventure with a 2-1 victory at home against Jagiellonia last month, Olympiacos should be excited by a trip to France on Thursday night. Winning four of their previous five appearances across all competitions, the Greek giants will be looking to exploit a Marseille squad who have rightfully come under a huge amount of scrutiny. With Les Phoceens suffering back-to-back defeats in front of their own supporters for the first time since back in January, they also got their respective European charge underway with a woeful 4-1 drumming against Besiktas prior to September’s International break.

Verdict: Goal to be scored in both halves
