Prediction: Elche vs Real Sociedad
Hoping to claim consecutive La Liga victories on Monday night, Real Sociedad will travel to Alicante when they meet Elche.
With a Monday schedule that includes showdowns from the likes of Spain, Italy and England, there are plenty of eye-catching betting promotions available.
Verdict: Real Sociedad double chance
Starting with the hosts, while Elche might have dragged themselves over the finishing line last season as they clung to their La Liga status, Elche are widely regarded as a standout relegation contender once again. Opening the 2026/27 campaign with a 1-1 stalemate against top-flight newcomers Deportivo A Coruna on August 17th, that is the only point that Martin Anselmi’s men have put on the board from their first three La Liga appearances. Putting in a nightmare first-half performance last time out as they signed off August with an action-packed 3-2 defeat against Racing Santander, Elche have shown some glaring defensive issues on either side of the summer break. Hit with a 5-0 drumming at home against reigning Spanish champions Barcelona last month, Anselmi’s side have mustered just a sole clean sheet from their previous 10 La Liga appearances continuing on from last season.
Both still dealing with respective injury issues continuing on from last season, Elche will once again be without the duo of Adam Boayar and former Tottenham youngster Yago Santiago on Monday night.
Completing a permanent switch from MLS outfit Houston Dynamo over the summer, Argentinian attacker Ezequiel Ponce could be handed a maiden La Liga start here. Bagging what turned out to be a consolation strike away at Racing Santander last week, ex-Villarreal starlet Fir Nino should keep his spot leading the line.
Real Sociedad
As for the visitors, while Real Sociedad might have just about dragged themselves to a top-half finish last season, Pellegrino Matarazzo’s men signed off the 2025/26 campaign in the midst of a public crisis. Failing to win any of their final eight consecutive La Liga appearances, Monday’s guests once again showed some glaring issues when returning from the summer interval. Getting proceedings underway with back-to-back defeats against Real Betis and Spanish icons Real Madrid, the former Hoffenheim boss has found some serious pressure on his shoulders. Despite signing off August with an essential 2-1 victory at home against Espanyol last weekend, Sociedad will feel that they missed out on a golden opportunity. Eventually forced to settle for a 0-0 stalemate against Celta Vigo on Thursday night, La Real have put just a sole La Liga win on the board since back on April 4th.
Not making a single appearance across any competition since way back in February, Real Sociedad will once again be without one-time Bayern Munich defender Alvaro Odriozola due to a long-term knee injury.
Helping Spain to just a second World Cup crown in North America over the summer, talismanic skipper Mikel Oyarzabal will be looking to open his La Liga account here. Now in his second campaign at the Reale Arena, former Girona star Yangel Herrera will start in the middle of the park.
Elche vs Real Sociedad Key Factors to Consider
- When Elche and Real Sociedad last met for a La Liga showdown back on February 7th, Monday’s guests claimed a 3-1 victory in the Basque Country.
- Real Sociedad are unbeaten in all of their last eight consecutive La Liga matchups against Elche (seven wins, one draw).
- Monday’s hosts have mustered just a sole clean sheet from their previous 10 La Liga appearances continuing on from last season.
- La Real have put just a sole La Liga win on the board since back on April 4th. Spanish international Mikel Oyarzabal found the net in both of his La Liga showdowns last season.
- Sociedad have not recorded a single domestic clean sheet outside of the Basque Country since the end of February.
Two camps who have drastically failed to find their feet since opening up the 2026/27 campaign, both Elche and Real Sociedad are desperately searching for their own respective boosts. Watching Matarazzo’s side storm their way to a thumping 3-1 victory when they last met Monday’s hosts for a La Liga showdown back on February 7th, Sociedad are unbeaten in each of their previous eight straight meetings (seven wins, one draw). With Matarazzo’s tenure potentially hanging in the balance, La Real can’t afford another public slip-up on Monday night.
