Prediction: Barcelona vs Getafe

Barcelona will aim to continue their perfect start to the season when they welcome Getafe to the Camp Nou on Saturday in La Liga.

Hansi Flick’s side have won all seven of their league matches so far and sit comfortably at the top of the standings, while Getafe arrive looking to upset the leaders and build on a morale-boosting victory before the international break.

Barcelona

Barcelona have been the outstanding team in Spain during the opening weeks of the campaign.

The Catalan giants have collected a maximum 21 points from their first seven league fixtures, scoring an astonishing 31 goals while conceding just seven. That record has already established a healthy advantage over many of their rivals, with Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid both trailing behind.

Flick’s side entered the international break on the back of a 3-1 victory over Sevilla, extending an exceptional run that has now seen them win eight consecutive matches across all competitions. Their opening Champions League fixture was equally impressive, as they brushed aside Feyenoord 5-1.

With demanding fixtures against Galatasaray, Real Betis, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid on the horizon, Barcelona will be eager to maintain momentum before entering a crucial period of the season.

The hosts also boast a superb record against Getafe. Barcelona have won 32 of the previous 46 meetings between the clubs and were comfortable 3-0 winners in this fixture last season.

Team News

Team news presents a minor concern following Raphinha’s injury during the international break. The Brazilian has avoided serious damage but will miss this weekend’s contest as well as Barcelona’s next European outing.

Gabriel Jesus is expected to feature in attack, while Joan Garcia and Eric Garcia should be available after recent fitness concerns. Frenkie de Jong, Roony Bardghji and Andreas Christensen remain unavailable through injury.

Isco and Marc Roca were among the standout performers before the international break and are expected to continue playing key roles for Flick’s side.

Getafe’s start to the season has been considerably more mixed, though there have been encouraging signs beneath the surface.

Jose Bordalas’s men have collected eight points from seven matches thanks to two wins and two draws, leaving them in mid-table and comfortably clear of the relegation zone in the early standings.

The major problem has been a lack of goals. Getafe have found the net only four times in seven league matches, making them one of La Liga’s least prolific attacking teams. Defensively, however, they have been far more impressive and have conceded only seven goals, matching Barcelona’s record.

Their final match before the international break produced a valuable 1-0 victory over Malaga, ending a difficult run and providing a timely confidence boost ahead of one of the toughest away trips in Spanish football.

History is not on their side, though. Getafe have not beaten Barcelona since October 2020 and have never recorded a league victory away to the Catalan club.

Team News

Injuries continue to affect Bordalas’s options. Juanmi and Christantus Uche are unavailable, while Abdel Abqar and Kiko Femenia face late fitness tests.

The return of Mario Martin from suspension should strengthen the midfield, while Enes Unal will once again carry much of the attacking responsibility after scoring three goals already this season.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Barcelona have won all seven of their La Liga matches this season.
  • Flick’s side have scored 31 goals in those seven league fixtures.
  • Getafe have scored only four league goals all season.
  • The visitors have never beaten Barcelona away from home.
  • Raphinha is unavailable after suffering a thigh injury on international duty.
  • Getafe have conceded the same number of league goals as Barcelona (seven).

Conclusion

Getafe’s defensive organisation suggests they can remain competitive for periods, but their lack of firepower is likely to be a major issue against one of Europe’s most confident teams.

Barcelona have been relentless under Flick, combining attacking brilliance with defensive consistency, and they appear well equipped to cope with the absence of Raphinha.

While Getafe should make life difficult at times, the league leaders possess far too much quality throughout the squad and are strong favourites to continue their winning streak with another convincing home victory.
