Prediction: Avai vs Londrina

Two camps who find themselves scrapping it out in the relegation zone, Avai will welcome Londrina to Santa Catarina late on Wednesday night.

With Europe’s elite domestic leagues making their respective returns this weekend, there are plenty of attractive betting promotions available.

Verdict: Both teams to score – No

Starting with the hosts, while Avai might have received plenty of plaudits last season as they clinched a top-half finish, Allan Aal’s men have drastically failed to find a similar level this time around. Last seen over the weekend putting in another toothless performance as they were hit with a 1-0 loss at home against Ceara, the Blues have a major job on their hands in the race to keep hold of their Serie B status this year. Signing off September with a 3-0 drumming at the hands of Criciuma, Avai have remarkably claimed just one-point from any of their previous seven appearances – a rut that stems back to August 23rd. Gaining an unwanted reputation for their struggles in the final third, Wednesday’s hosts have also notched just a trio of Serie B strikes on their nightmare seven-match winless blip.

Lasting just three minutes over the weekend before being forced off with a muscle issue, Avai will be unable to call upon new recruit and former Remo defender Reynaldo late on Wednesday night. Yet to make a single appearance since the middle of July, young striker Juan Rocha remains on the sidelines.

Both serving their own respective Serie B suspensions a few days ago, the duo of Ze Ricardo and Paulo Vitor will return to Aal’s squad. One-time Flamengo starlet Luis Henrique will start at the heart of Avai’s defence in midweek.

Londrina

As for the visitors, while Londrina might have clinched back-to-back Serie B victories last month, it appears that was just a minor boost for the Sharks. Last seen over the weekend putting in their own toothless display as they were hit with a deserved 2-0 loss at home against Criciuma, the midweek guests are also facing their own uphill battle to avoid the drop. Facing what looks set to be a real Serie B six-pointer late on Wednesday night, Londrina have lost each of their previous three consecutive appearances by an aggregate score of 6-1. Signing off September with another 2-0 defeat against Vila Nova, the Sharks have also shown their own glaring attacking issues. In fact, they have failed to find the net in almost 200 minutes of action.

Shown a last-gasp red card over the weekend, former Bragantino youngster Chumbinho will miss out through suspension here. Likewise, limping off after just half hour on Saturday, Joao Tavares will miss out in midweek.

Not featuring since the middle of August, former Brusque attacker Paulinho Moccelin will once again miss out late on Wednesday night. Making a permanent switch to the Estadio do Cafe over the summer, ex-Ponte Preta goalkeeper Luan Ribeiro will start between the sticks.

Avai vs Londrina Key Factors to Consider

  • When Avai and Londrina last met for a Serie B showdown back on June 16th, Wednesday’s guests claimed a rollercoaster 3-2 victory at the Estadio do Cafe.
  • Avai have remarkably registered just one-point from any of their previous seven straight Serie B showdowns.
  • The Blues have registered just a trio of strikes during that extended seven-match winless rut.
  • Londrina have lost each of their previous three consecutive Serie B appearances by an aggregate score of 6-1.
  • Wednesday’s guests have failed to find the net in almost 200 minutes of action.

While Wednesday’s opponents might have played out a thrilling five-goal thriller when they last met for a Serie B showdown at the Estadio do Cafe back in June, don’t be surprised to see a far more cagey affair here. With both Avai and Londrina scrapping it out in the relegation zone, chances could come at a real premium in midweek. With the Sharks drawing back-to-back blanks and failing to find the net in almost 300 minutes of action, Avai have also notched just a trio of strikes during their nightmare seven-match winless rut.
