Prasidh Krishna steps up in Bumrah’s absence, named Impact Player of Series after India’s 1-0 win in Sri Lanka

Prasidh Krishna was rewarded for his consistent bowling effort on India’s two-Test tour of Sri Lanka as he was named the Impact Player of the Series. Krishna finished with seven wickets at an average of 24.57, with best figures of 3/52. In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, the pacer emerged as India’s most effective specialist fast bowler during the series.

Krishna rewarded for hard work

Presenting the medal, India’s performance analyst Hari Prasad praised Krishna for his preparation and ability to keep challenging the Sri Lankan batters.

Handing the medal to Prasidh, Hari Prasad said in a video posted by BCCI, “So the Impact Player of the Series goes to someone who had put the hard yards, made the ball talk, kept asking the right questions to the batters even in these adverse conditions. He made an impact with the ball whenever he got the opportunity. And ever since we landed in Colombo, you know, he had been on my ears asking for a lot of data. And honestly, in this team, if there is someone who can have a second job as an analyst, that would be him. And for his relentlessness, wickets, impact, and way too many questions for me, which I enjoy. It is Prasidh Krishna.”

India clinch series 1-0

India won the opening Test in Galle by 165 runs before the second Test in Colombo ended in a draw, securing a 1-0 series victory. India’s bowlers dominated for large periods of the Colombo Test. They bowled Sri Lanka out for 290 after posting 503/9 declared, but the hosts fought back in their second innings to finish on 429/9 and save the match.

Spinner Manav Suthar was India’s leading wicket-taker with 16 wickets, while Ravindra Jadeja contributed eight.

Krishna credits the team

Accepting the award, Krishna thanked his teammates and the support staff, stressing that the achievement was the result of the entire group’s efforts.

Prasidh thanked everyone and said, “Nothing would be possible without each one of you. I think everybody, the ones that are playing obviously got the credit that they were due, but everybody around, I think it takes a lot for everybody during a Test match, you are here for a camp. We did such long practices every session to see all of you all lock up.”
