When the Patriots acquired A.J. Brown from the Eagles, they knew what they were getting: a superstar receiver who can take over games by himself to pair with quarterback Drake Maye. On Friday, the potential of that duo was on full display.

On Day 6 of the team’s training camp, all indications were that Brown was the star of practice. The Boston Herald’s Doug Kyed noted that Maye connected on all four of his attempts to Brown.

Two of those receptions came in the end zone. Brown snagged a perfect over-the-shoulder lob from Maye:

Brown also ran a sharp route and plucked the ball out of the air with one hand:

“Just trying to build a relationship with me and him. I think you’re just seeing it get better every day,” Maye said of his connection with Brown. “I think that’s the best thing about training camp. That’s what you use it for. I’m blessed to play with a player like him, and I’m looking forward to giving him the rock and seeing him do his thing.”

Brown was also straightforward about his intentions at training camp, embracing the challenge of going head-to-head with star cornerback Christian Gonzalez.

“Everybody knows [Gonzalez] is a stud,” Brown said. “Whenever I gotta go against him, the margin of error is very small. That’s what you want. And those are my matchups, so I don’t shy away from those.”

If there’s one aspect of Brown’s game that will single-handedly improve the Patriots’ offense from Week 1 on, it’s his red-zone talent. With 56 touchdowns in his career, including seven for the Eagles last season, Brown’s strong frame has long allowed him to bring down the football in tight windows.

New England is hoping that Maye and Brown will carry this chemistry into the regular season and push the Patriots back to the Super Bowl.
