Police seal suspected adulterated drinks factory in Lagos, arrest 48-year-old man

The Lagos State Police Command has shut down a suspected illegal factory allegedly involved in the production and packaging of adulterated alcoholic beverages in the Badagry area of the state.

Police operatives also arrested a 48-year-old man, Anaebo Emeka Hilary, in connection with the suspected operation at Yafin, Badagry.

The arrest followed information provided by members of the public, which prompted operatives to move against the suspected facility, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi.

Items recovered from the premises included suspected adulterated alcoholic drinks, empty bottles, assorted wine labels and various production equipment suspected to have been used in manufacturing and packaging the beverages.

“During the operation, the operatives recovered adulterated alcoholic drinks, empty bottles, different wine labels and various production utensils suspected to have been used in the production and packaging of the drinks,” the statement said.

Following the discovery, the police sealed the facility, while Hilary was taken into custody for questioning. The recovered items were also transferred to the police station as investigations into the operation commenced.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, commended the officers involved for acting swiftly on the information received and maintaining vigilance.

Fatai said the command would continue to carry out intelligence-driven operations aimed at tackling criminal activities across Lagos, while urging residents to assist the police by providing timely and credible information on suspected criminal activities.
