Police Kill Suspected Robber, Recover Two Vehicles, Other Items In Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command says it has neutralised a suspected member of a robbery syndicate and recovered two vehicles, a locally made pistol and several other items following a robbery attempt in the Onipanu area of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.

The police said operatives of the Onipanu Division, under the Ota Area Command, foiled the robbery in the early hours of Sunday, November 1, 2026, after responding to a distress call from a resident.

In a statement issued in Abeokuta, the state capital, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the patrol team arrived at the scene in Ijaba, Iyesi, Ota, at about 1:45am.

He said the suspects opened fire on sighting the operatives, prompting the police to respond.

“The ensuing exchange of gunfire resulted in the neutralisation of one suspect, while other gang members fled with suspected gunshot injuries,” Babaseyi said.

A search conducted after the encounter led to the recovery of a Nissan Almera and a Toyota Camry, as well as a locally made pistol and two live cartridges.

Other items suspected to have been stolen included HP and Dell laptops, a PlayStation console, four mobile phones, a Samsung television, a standing fan, a rechargeable radio, a Wi-Fi device, clothing, an OPay ATM card, a deck, two MP devices and other household items.

The police also recovered a Tecno mobile phone, three passport photographs, an MTN SIM pack, two National Identification Number (NIN) cards and cash from the deceased suspect.

Babaseyi said the Command had launched a manhunt for the fleeing members of the gang, particularly those who might have sustained gunshot injuries.

The police urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or activities, assuring them that the Command remained committed to protecting lives and property.
