The suspect, identified as Adam Muhammed, was apprehended by operatives of the Ewekoro Division on Sunday, following a tip-off from a vigilant motorist.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

According to Babaseyi, at about 7:30 a.m., a motorist travelling along the Onigbedu-Itori Road sighted an unregistered tricycle conveying a grey Haojue Lady motorcycle and a Firman generator, with two passengers on board.

Suspecting that the items were stolen, the motorist promptly alerted the police while trailing the tricycle to Complex Junction, Itori, towards Papalanto.

“Acting swiftly on the information, police operatives intercepted the tricycle. The two occupants attempted to flee, but one suspect, identified as Adam Muhammed, was apprehended after a hot chase, while efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing accomplice,” Babaseyi said.

He said preliminary investigation has linked the recovered motorcycle and generator to a reported theft in Itori.

“The suspect remains in custody as detectives intensify investigations to establish the full circumstances of the incident and ensure that all those involved are brought to justice,” the statement added.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their prompt response and praised the vigilance of the member of the public whose alert led to the arrest.

“Timely report can make the difference between a successful crime and its prevention,” CP Ojajuni said.

He reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to sustain proactive patrols and urged residents to promptly report suspicious movements.
