The suspects, identified as Sagir Abubakar of Kuchigoro Village and Seidu Umar Bello, were arrested during a police patrol in the Guzape area of the FCT.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

She said the incident occurred at about 1:30 am on October 31, 2026, when operatives attached to Guzape Division spotted a Lexus SUV and a Toyota Sienna parked suspiciously along Walter Ofonagoro Street.

According to her, the officers approached the vehicles to find out why the occupants were at the location at that time, but the suspects sped off after sighting the police.

Adeh said one of the occupants was abandoned and attempted to escape on foot but was chased and arrested by the operatives.

She added that a search of the surrounding area led to the recovery of several armoured cables that had been cut into pieces.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, identified as Sagir Abubakar of Kuchigoro Village, FCT, is a member of a gang of vandals who target secluded locations within the FCT to vandalise public and private infrastructure,” she said.

The police spokesperson said further investigations led to the arrest of Bello, who had initially escaped in one of the vehicles.

She said investigations were ongoing to identify other members of the gang and establish the full extent of their activities.

Adeh added that the suspects remained in police custody and would be charged to court after investigations were concluded.

The command urged residents to report suspicious persons and activities to the nearest police station.
