Free-to-play gamers have plenty of options these days, even on consoles. Genshin Impact, Withered Waves, and Fortnite are just a few of the free-to-play games that have risen to prominence in the past 10 years, and new ones are announced regularly during State of Play broadcasts and similar livestreams. Now, a totally free open-world RPG is launching on PlayStation in December, and it won’t require a PlayStation Plus subscription to play either.
Free-to-play RPGs aren’t exactly rare, but the list of ones that don’t require a PlayStation Plus membership is a bit shorter. This new game is called Silver Palace, and it’s a brand-new title from Silver Studio. It features some stunning anime-style visuals and a lot of personality in its most recent trailer. Akin to Genshin Impact, it will be a fully 3D open-world RPG for players to explore, while featuring a gacha system.
A Free-to-Play Open World RPG with Open Skies
Silver Palace is a detective RPG where players will have to investigate and solve mysteries by their own handiwork. As seen in prior trailers for the game, players will have to interrogate and directly investigate crime scenes to unravel the mysteries of the palace and the town surrounding it. Registration is now available on the official website for Silver Palace.
Exactly what the gacha system in this free RPG will entail has yet to be seen, but a four-star character being offered among the pre-registration rewards indicates there will be at least a character gacha. It’s also possible there will also be gachas for equipment and mounts, as mounts have been heavily featured through the few trailers that have been released for Silver Palace.
It seems flying mounts and possibly even flying mounted combat will be featured in the game, as indicated by multiple trailers, including the most recent launch trailer above. Though it has yet to be announced or seen just how prevalent mounted or even flying combat will be in Silver Palace, of the latter is actually present at all.
The game’s interrogation and investigation systems will be the main way this differs from similar titles. The game’s description states that, “In Silvernia, every encounter is a choice: to mingle, to investigate, to judge, or to fight.” This seems to hint that there will be multiple options to handle some quest or story encounters.
The interrogation system and investigation systems shown briefly so far are intriguing additions to the open-world RPG formula, though how exactly they’ll be integrated into the game has yet to be seen. Being able to interrogate an enemy in a questline rather than pummel them would be an interesting change of pace, though the trailers seem to indicate this will be more of a combat-oriented title than anything else.
Silver Palace will be releasing completely for free on Google Play, the Apple App Store, the Epic Game Store, and the PlayStation 5 on December 14. The PS5 release will not require a PlayStation Plus account, making it a rare completely free full game on the platform. Interestingly, there is no mention of a Steam version of the game. This may come at a later date.
Those interested in Silver Palace may want to pre-register for the free open-world RPG, and can do so now on the official site. At the time of writing, the game is up to 15 million pre-registrations. At the 30 million mark, players will be granted a free four-star character on release, whether you’re playing on PlayStation or another platform entirely.
