Pioneering Former Dodger Reveals Thoughts onThe Los Angeles Dodgers highlighted a trailblazing former player on Saturday, having him throw out the ceremonial first pitch in a matchup with the Boston Red Sox.

That player, left fielder Chin-Feng Chen, was the first Taiwanese player in MLB history, making his debut with the Dodgers on Sept. 14, 2002.

Former Dodger Chin-Feng Chen, the first Taiwanese player in MLB history, was kind enough to speak with me after he threw out the first pitch on Saturday.

I got to ask him about players following in his footsteps and the current dynasty. Here’s what he had to say: pic.twitter.com/sBcHAMk0r3

Chen appeared at Dodger Stadium on STARLUX Night, which celebrates Taiwanese culture and the Taiwan-based airline that sponsors the team, and took a few minutes to speak with Dodgers Nation.

Through an interpreter, he shared his thoughts on the current dynastic Dodgers and had advice for Taiwanese players following his footsteps.

Speaking after his pitch, Chen explained that he had a nice homecoming at Dodger Stadium.

“He cherished this opportunity and was excited to see his past coworkers and whatnot,” the interpreter said. “He’s very excited just to be here.”

He also said that “not much” has changed in the years since he played.

Chen left MLB in 2005 and spent the rest of his playing career, 11 seasons, in the Chinese Professional Baseball League in Taiwan.

He’s since spent time as an executive and manager in the CPBL, but he’s kept up with the Dodgers as well.

Chen noted that back-to-back World Series titles come with a commitment to steady progress, and this team is “getting stronger and stronger and better and better every day.”

“He understands how the whole team is working together, has great teamwork,” the interpreter detailed. “Obviously, with this team’s spirit and how they are putting in the work, it’s obvious the Dodgers are improving day by day and being successful day by day.”

Chen also had advice for the players of Taiwanese heritage who are following in his footsteps and hoping to achieve their own dreams of playing in MLB.

“Enjoy the moment, enjoy the process and be fulfilled, because there’s a lot of hardships that come with it. But it’s also very fulfilling,” he said. “Chasing after your dream is the first and foremost. Whatever you do, whatever it is, however big or small… Chase after your dream and dream big.”
