Peter Obi won’t hide from answering questions on Anambra under his leadership – Yunusa Tanko

The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, has said former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi will not shy away from questions over the state’s alleged debt and financial records during his administration.
Tanko stated this on Friday while defending Obi during an interview on Arise TV amid the ongoing controversy over loans, debts and other financial obligations allegedly inherited from previous administrations in Anambra State.

He said Obi had already made his handover records available to the public and would be ready to provide clarification on any issue concerning the state’s finances.

According to Tanko, Obi had nothing to hide and had voluntarily presented the records of his administration to the people.

“Nobody asked His Excellency, Mr Peter Obi, to present facts about his handing over. He did willingly and openly to the people,” he said.

Tanko was responding to questions over claims that Obi left behind loans and other liabilities, including external obligations and unpaid commitments.

The controversy followed claims that Obi left Anambra with a healthy financial balance, while critics have alleged that his administration also left debts and other liabilities for his successor, former Governor Willie Obiano.

Tanko dismissed the claims that Obi’s financial record had not been properly accounted for.

According to him, the NDC presidential candidate had provided documents that could be independently verified.

He also referred to Obi’s handover report, which he said showed the financial position of the state at the end of his administration.

Tanko further challenged those disputing the figures to verify the records rather than making allegations against the former governor.

“The video is there. Anybody can see it. They confirmed that such amount of money is in their bank account. If anybody wants to contradict that, let them go to the bank. It is available.”
