Romano has made clear that Liverpool want Minteh in addition to the Paris Saint-Germain winger, who remains their primary target.
Talks with PSG over Barcola are reportedly continuing, with Liverpool exploring the possibility of signing both wide attackers as part of a major revamp of their frontline.
A double swoop for Barcola and Minteh would give them considerably greater depth and variety in the wide areas.
It would also represent a huge financial commitment from Liverpool, particularly with the club already prepared to offer £60m for Minteh.
Signing Minteh a strange move
Despite Liverpool’s optimism, sanctioning a £70 million move for Minteh will raise eyebrows. The winger is currently recovering from right leg surgery following a pre-season injury sustained against AS Roma.
With an estimated recovery timeline of up to two to three months, Minteh will be unable to play immediately, making him a long-term developmental investment rather than a quick fix for the upcoming fixtures.
Additionally, with only nine Premier League goals across two seasons with Brighton, spending such a steep fee on an injured, developing asset, while simultaneously funding a record-breaking deal for Barcola, represents a bold and unorthodox gamble by the Liverpool hierarchy.
