Tommy DeVito and Kyle Williams are making a habit of producing the New England Patriots‘ best preseason highlights.

The Patriots quarterback delivered a beautiful deep ball to Williams near the end of the first half Saturday night against the Philadelphia Eagles. Williams ran underneath the pass without breaking stride and took it to the end zone for a 69-yard touchdown at Gillette Stadium.

The NFL shared video of the play on X, writing, “Tommy DeVito threw a dime and Kyle Williams never broke stride.”

That description was fitting. DeVito placed the ball directly in Williams’ path, allowing the speedy receiver to complete the play without slowing down to adjust. It gave New England its first touchdown of the night and offered another example of why Williams remains one of the most intriguing weapons in the Patriots’ receiving corps.

DeVito-Williams Connection Strikes Again

Saturday’s touchdown was not the first time DeVito and Williams connected for a preseason score. DeVito found Williams for a 12-yard touchdown during New England’s 13-13 tie against the Indianapolis Colts in the preseason opener. That play required Williams to create separation near the goal line and secure a precisely placed pass in the corner of the end zone.

The touchdown against Philadelphia showcased an entirely different part of his skill set. Williams used his speed to get behind the Eagles’ secondary, and DeVito trusted him enough to launch the ball downfield. The result was a play that covered nearly half the field through the air before Williams finished the run to the end zone.

Williams recorded two receptions for 74 yards and the touchdown on six first-half targets. DeVito completed eight of his first 14 passes for 151 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. He also provided 44 rushing yards, including a 36-yard scramble.

Williams Makes Case In Crowded Patriots Receiver Room

Williams already was considered one of New England’s primary deep threats after averaging 18.6 yards per reception during his rookie season. The Patriots selected him with the 69th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft after he recorded 1,198 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns during his final season at Washington State. He finished his rookie campaign with 12 catches for 223 yards and three scores while working in a rotational role.

His opportunities could be difficult to predict in 2026 after New England added A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs to an already competitive receiving group. That makes every preseason target important for Williams. He could not have done much more with DeVito’s best throw Saturday.

Drake Maye remains the unquestioned starter, but DeVito continues to make a convincing case for the backup job. Williams, meanwhile, keeps reminding the Patriots that his speed can change a game in one snap. Two preseason games have produced two DeVito-to-Williams touchdowns. The second was the type of effortless-looking deep connection New England hopes to see much more often when the regular season begins.
