The New England Patriots are not done modifying their running back group. On Wednesday night, after already signing free agent Hassan Haskins and waiving rookie Myles Montgomery, they also brought in a second veteran.

JaMycal Hasty, who already spent parts of the 2023 and 2024 seasons as well as last training camp in New England, has been re-signed after a workout. Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston was first to report the signing.

Hasty, 29, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2020. The Baylor product was picked up by the 49ers and via the practice squad made his way onto the 53-man roster. He appeared in 22 total games over his two years with the club, but was cut ahead of the 2022 season. He joined the Jaguars as a waiver claim and delivered the most productive season of his career in his first year in Jacksonville, registering 66 touches, 320 yards, 3 touchdowns.

Hasty failed to build on his success and was let go again by Jaguars during the 2023 regular season. This, in turn, allowed the Patriots to bring him in as a waiver claim of their own.

Over his one and a half seasons in Foxborough, Hasty was used as a depth running back and kickoff return option. Overall, he played 17 games for the club between 2023 and 2024 and touched the ball 30 times for 128 yards and a touchdown while also averaging 23.8 yards on 10 kickoff returns.

Hasty was let go by the Patriots ahead of last year’s roster cuts and subsequently spent the 2025 season on Miami‘s practice squad. He was not retained after the season, and has remained unsigned since January.

The Patriots will play the Colts in their preseason opener on Thursday night.
